National Games champions, folk musician feted

Imphal, November 09 2023: Yurembam Bonish and Lourembam Jotinkumar Meetei, who won gold medal in Wushu (Nangun) competition of the 37th National Games in Goa and the Manipur Folk Music examination conducted by the Department of music, Manipur University of Culture respectively were felicitated on Thursday.

The felicitation function was organised by Young Federation Club, Chabung Company Makha Leikai at the Community Hall of Chabung Company Makha Leikai.

Speaking at the event as chief guest, MLA Kongkham Robindro expressed delight that two players from Mayang Imphal namely Yurembam Bonish and Lourembam Jotinkumar Meetei won gold medals in the held of sports, and art and culture.

It is indeed a blessing that the duo brought laurels for the state and provided some peace of mind to the people who have been facing various issues amid the crisis situation.

While appealing to the public to cooperate with one another and shed all differences, MLA Robindro said that it is time for all to work together by consulting and taking advice of experts and elderly people.

In addition to performing our duties efficiently, we need to share our thoughts and ideas and help in bringing about a bright future, said the MLA, who also presented Rs 10,000 each to Bonish and Jotinkumar.

On the other-hand, sportspersons of Manipur who bagged medals in Wushu competition in the 37th National Games, Goa were accorded warm welcome by well-wishers at Imphal Tulihal International Airport here on Thursday.

Twenty-five (25) Wushu (Sansou and Taolu) players from Manipur participated in the Games with nine bagged Gold medals, 7 Silver medals and two securing Bronze medals.

Speaking to reporters at the Airport, Manipur team's Wushu coach Mayanglambam Bimoljit, contended that Manipur was expecting to get 13 gold medals in Wushu but had to settle for nine.

He also advised all players work harder to achieve success.

Meanwhile, parents of Wushu players appealed to the Wushu association, which has been split into two groups, to come together and constitute only one association free from corruption.
