SDSA continues anti-drugs campaign

Continuing its 'Combat against Drugs campaign", Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) organised an awareness programme on 'Drug Abuse' under the banner 'Say No to Drugs: Building a Drug-Free District' at Asufii Christian Institute (ACI), Punanamei, Mao.
Speaking at the programme ACI principal Dr P Wungnaongam lauded the district's apex student body for taking up the initiative for safety and wellbeing of contemporary youth and student community.
Expressing that such awareness programmes are necessary, he stated that many youths especially the students have been ensnarled into drug abuse and their future at stake.
He expressed hope that the initiative to create awareness on the problem of drug abuse will bring the much needed changes in the society.
As part of the event; Senapati SP Shivanand Surve spoke on 'Understanding Narcotic Drugs & Illicit Trafficking and its Impact on Students & Youth and the Legal Implications', while DMHP, Senapati clinical psychologist Paveine Paulina talked on 'Psychological Intervention in Substance Use Disorders'.
On the other hand, SDSA vice president Robin Kangba stated that in the light of prevailing situation with sudden spike in the number of drug abusers especially among students in the district, SDSA decided to take up an intensive awareness campaign.
The first seminar was held at Don Bosco College, Maram and the second at Mount Everest College, Senapati.
Such seminars are being conducted in collaboration with Senapati District Police with support of the district administration, he informed.
Pointing out the problems caused by drug abusers in the society, Robin urged the students not to indulge in such activities.
With support from the gathering, a common pledge was also taken in the later part of his speech, followed by an interactive session between the students and dais members.
SDSA president Yonuo Peter, at the end of the programme, urged the students to stay away from drugs.
