Dr Ranjan stresses on understanding origin, upholding tradition

Senapati, January 14 2023: Health & Family Welfare minister Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh has stated that people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture are like a tree without its roots.

Speaking at the inaugural function of the 41st general conference of Maram Students' Union/Maralui Karalimei Swijoikang (MKS) under the theme, "Connecting to Roots at Maram Khullen village in Senapati district as the chief guest, minister Dr Ranjan expressed that if one knows where one is from, it would be difficult for adversary elements to hinder one's objective to excel in any field.

"A tree's beauty lies in its branches, but its strength lies in the root.

It is the roots which give strength to the tree and not the branches.

People without the knowledge of their past history, their origin and their culture are like a tree without its roots", reiterated the minister and also mentioned about the importance to know one's traditions, folk songs, dances, musical instruments.

While noting that Maram community has beautiful cultural heritage and traditional attires which need to be preserved and passed from one generation to another, Dr Ranjan also urged the gathering of young learners to learn the good things from one another.

Different learners learn different subjects and di versified subjects, said the minister, adding that such students' conference should be utilised for sharing ideas and to know each other and to do good things for the community at large.

He also appealed to all to make good use of every moment and every second while attending the conference.

The Health minister also mentioned the need to discuss on environmental degradation in the state when such programmes are organised as well as the "War on drugs" campaign that the chief minister has been according importance to make the state drug-free.

To the student community, he said that they should have the passion to do whatever one wants to become in life and should never be scared of failure.

"There is no one in this world who had never failed" but failure should not deter one from getting to the next step.

Failure should be the stepping stone to make sure that one works harder and succeed, he stated.

The government of Manipur under the able leadership of N Biren, who is commonly known as "People's CM" is endeavouring for development in all aspects and every region, Dr Ranjan continued and urged all to support the government for the good of all.

With the pace of development that is taking place in the state, the minister expressed confidence that Manipur would turn into a tourist hotspot after 5-10 years.

As and when the international highway in the state (AH-1) is fully operational, many tourists are certain to be attracted to visit Manipur as the state's unique cultural heritage would be the right recipe for promotion of the tourism sector, he said.

The minister also pointed out that as promised by the chief minister during his last visit, the PHC at Maram bazar has been upgraded to a CHC and the PHSC at Maram Khullen to PHC.

Meanwhile, COC convenor Pungdi P Celestine stated that the ancestors and forefathers had chosen as their home and their descendants continue to live at this ancestral homeland.

The students' conference returned to the village after a gap of 28 years at the same venue.

The convenor also acknowledged the presence of many seniors and former students' leaders of Maram Community.

In his presidential address, MKS president Boco Kashung stated that the programme could be organised under the legacy of the senior leaders and also urged the gathering to remain united for bring ing positive changes in the society.

Meanwhile, chief minister N Biren sent his greetings, virtually, for the conference due to his tight schedule.

Angami Students' Union and Chakesang Students' Union from Nagaland delighted the gathering with their meaningful folk tune.

The programme was also attended by Maram Union president K Raisong, former minister Francis Ngajokpa and former deputy speaker K Raina as special guests, while Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) president Yonuo Peter and Senapati District Women Association (SDWA) president RN Hannah were the special invitees.
