Imphal, September 08 2014:
Indo-Myanmar Border Traders' Union (IMBTU) on Monday said though the Indo-Myanmar Border Trade has been carrying on for over two decades, Manipur has been basically deprived of the benefits, reports NNN.
Both the State and Central Governments have neglected the legal trade activities and essentially denied the benefits to the people of Manipur, W Nabachandra, president, IMBTU said at a press meet at Manipur Press Club.
He said States like Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have their own Directorate of Trade & Commerce and demanded that the Government set up one such Directorate for the State also.
Nabachandra said currency exchange between India and Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal is officially allowed and demanded that Myanmar should be included in the list, besides permitting transit trade with other Asian countries.
Development of requisite infrastructure for India and Myanmar to ensure upgradation of the trade facilities and opening of the neighbouring country's consulate office in Imphal were other key demands raised by Nabachandra.
