Imphal, September 08 2014:
As in other parts of the world, the World Physical Therapy Day was observed in different parts of the State today and one such observation was held at Kuki Inn under the aegis of the All Manipur Physiotherapists Association (AMPA) .
MLA Laishram Nandakumar, AMPA president Dr K Rita and Family Welfare Additional Director Dr K Rajo attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the occasion, Laishram Nandakumar said that physiotherapy is one therapy which can treat human beings from head to toe.
However, majority of the people are unaware of this mode of therapy.
Because of the lack of awareness, majority of the people could not avail the benefits of physiotherapy, Nandakumar said.
Dr A Rita said the successful observance of the World Physical Therapy Day can be attributed to the collective effort of the physiotherapists of Manipur.
Manipur today has more than 400 qualified physiotherapists but the Government has no appropriate or adequate posts to absorb them.
Left with no other option, they have been working in the private sector for trifling remunerations.
Noting that physiotherapy is one therapy which produces no side effects, Rita appealed to the Government to pay due attention to physiotherapy.
Later, MLA L Nandakumar launched a website of the All Manipur Physiotherapists Association.
The World Physical Therapy Day was also observed at the hall of Indian Medical Association (IMA) under the aegis of the India Association of Physiotherapists (IAP), Manipur Branch.
Disability Commissioner Laishram Ibomcha, IAP Manipur Branch convenor P Lolito and CMO Imphal West Dr Bimolakumari, Prosection Director Ngangom Tejkumar, Eastern Motors proprietor and senior physiotherapist L Nirmala attended the function as presidium members.
