Imphal, September 03 2023:
Khwairamband Ima Keithel Lukmai Sellup (Lukmai Sellup in short) has asked Chief Minister N Biren singh to come out and lead from the front to save the people and Manipur instead of asking civil society organisations to unite as one.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, general secretary of Lukmai Sellup Asem Nirmala decried the lackadaisical attitude of the State Government towards the people's demand for a special Assembly session to discuss the present crisis.
The August 29 Assembly session that lasted a few minutes was a mockery, she said while adding that the session could have been a welcoming one if the agenda for the protection of the State integrity and people was discussed on the Assembly floor.
In connection with the Chief Minister's recent remark of 'too many CSOs', Nirmala said that every civil organisation in Manipur will follow his footsteps if he is willing to come out and lead from the front to protect the people and State.
She also stated that Lukmai Sellup will endorse the 'Black September' observation proposed by Phambei from September 3 till 21.Phambei had called for the observation of 'Black September' with a series of demonstrations to mark the completion of four months of violence which started from Churachandpur district and Government's failure to listen to the voice of people of the State.
The observation will run till September 21 which is observed as 'National Repentance Day' in denunciation of the 'Merger Agreement' signed by the then Maharaja Bodhachandra at Shillong on September 21, 1949 .
Nirmala also said it is high time for the Government of India to review the Merger Agreement.
She also came out against Mary Kom's statement that the Kom community is not part of the present conflict citing that the gun attack which injured one farmer at Naranseina village on August 29 morning was carried out from the neighbouring Kom village.
She further asked the former MP to refrain from making false statements which can create misunderstanding among different communities.
