Kakching, September 03 2023:
Tension ran high between meira paibi activists and Assam Rifles at Pangantabi on Sunday after one 37 AR captain threatened to file FIR against the former.
Speaking to media persons, a meira paibi activist informed that AR has been freely transporting supplies and personnel after an agreement was reached between the local meira paibi activists and 37 AR B company that the latter will take prior permission from the meira paibi activists with regard to their movement.
On Sunday, the AR informed them they will move out eight personnel from the camp and bring in nine personnel.
A meeting was then held with the AR captain with the meira paibi activists, but on being told that they will not allow replacement of more men which will be in total disregard of earlier agreement, the captain started pressing them to sign on a paper along with threatening them that he will file an FIR against them, which brought the two sides to loggerheads, she stated.
On hearing of the incident, large number of women from surrounding villages arrived at the spot and started agitating demanding removal of the said captain.
Later, Wangoo police station OC and 28 Sector AR officer also came to the site and started mediation but to no avail as both AR and meira paibi stood to their ground.
The meira paibi activists then intensified their protest with huge number of women picketing in the area and even removed a signboard which was placed at a distance of 50 metres from AR camp which warned of shooting anyone who will get closer to the camp from that signboard.
Till the filing of the report tension gripped the area.
