Imphal, September 03 2023:
With no sign of resolving the four-month long conflict between the Meetei and Kuki communities, more than 10,000 dissatisfied and disheartened youths from different parts of Manipur congregated Sunday at Khongman in Imphal East district and took a collective pledge to sacrifice for the 'motherland'.
Expressing resentment over alleged inaction of both the Centre and state government to end the continuing violence and prevent loss of lives, the youngsters took to a social media platform called 'Youths of Manipur' and accordingly gathered at SWC ground at Khongman Atom Leirak.
'Youths of Manipur' is un related with any civil society or political organisation but a group of young males formed through social media platform with individual idea that integrity of Manipur cannot be challenged.
Within a short time from 9 am to 12 noon, more than 10,000 youths including girls from different parts of Manipur converged at the SWC ground and took a collective pledge to sacrifice for the motherland, if required.
The congregation also arrived at several resolutions and gave three days' ultimatum to all concerned to act positively or face the consequences.
Among the resolutions include declaration of a collective concrete step of civil society organisations shouldering responsibility for the motherland, convening of state assembly at the earliest to fight the challenge posed to Manipur's integrity politically, declaration of concrete decision of ministers and MLAs for saving the motherland, compensation to victims of violence and replacement of Assam Rifles with unbiased forces.
The congregation also resolved that all the demands must be translated into action within three days and all concerned should bear responsibility for any consequences in case of failure.
From early morning, scores of youth from different parts of the state gathered at the ground and large number of police personnel too came and took preventive measures around the ground.
A large team of RAF was also deployed at Khongman Mangil as precautionary measure to prevent any unwanted incident.
However, significant numbers of Meira Paibi kept vigil around the ground to ensure success of the congregation.
After the congregation, representatives of Youths of Manipur met functionaries of Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), Federation of Civil Societies (FOCS) and All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO).
The functionaries of leading CSOs reportedly supported resolutions adopted at the congregation and assured to do the needful.
