Imphal, September 03 2023:
Writers' Forum, Imphal observed its 36th foundation day at Manipur Hindi Parishad Hall, Old Assembly road here on Sunday.
The observance was attended by Forum vice president Irungbam Basanta, founder member and Sahitya Akademi awardee Yumlembam Ibomcha as presidium members.
Four books were also released on the occasion, wherein floral tributes were offered to the portraits of the deceased members of the Forum, followed by observance of two-minute silence as a mark of respect.
Addressing the gathering, Ibomcha remarked that the prevailing times are unfortunate and difficult for all concerned, which is further worsened by the latest news reports and articles.
Despite this, our literature will continue to live.
Only when writers/authors put down their pens and publication stops, can it be said that literature is dead.
Amid the chaos, publication of new books has resumed over the past 1-2 months, which is something to celebrate, he added.
Stating that poetry is an art form, Ibomcha noted that writers/authors often go on long journeys to find new inspirations, which can be successful or unsuccessful.
When a writer finds an inspiration, the feelings and emotions he/she captures at the moment goes on to become literary pieces including poems, drama or novels.
The literary works become masterpieces when it stem out from the own experiences of the authors/writers, he added.
Exhorting the female writers/authors of Manipur, Ibomcha said that more and more women are making their mark in Manipuri literature, either through their literary works, publication or discussing other literary works.
Later, as part of the event, four books were released.
The books included 'Chingnungkhong Mapao' by Huidrom Othello; 'Ahing Amagi Khongloi' by Wangkheimayum Jayantakumar; 'Nungshibagi Masaikon' and 'Achikpagi Maranai' by Doneshwar Konsam.
Dr Longjam Sangita Devi and Haorongbam Sunita Devi spoke on the books.
