Sit-ins staged against gang rape, killing of Meeteis

A Sit-in protest was held at Kakching Khunnou Lamkhai on Monday condemning the gang rape of a Meetei woman in Churachandpur on May 3; killing of three civilians of Kwakta Lamkhai Ward No 8 by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists on August 5 and biased action of Assam Rifles in regard to the present crisis in state.
The protest which was organised by All Kakching Khunnou Meira Paibi Welfare Association was participated by Meira Paibi activists of Kakching Khunou, Umathel, Thongam and Tokpaching.
Speaking to media persons, association's president Khumukcham Mema stated that it is very regrettable that PM Narendra Modi and state government were swift in condemning the naked parade and molestation of two Kuki women at Nongpok Sekmai while assuring to take action against the perpetrators and provide compensation to them.
But in case of the gang rape of a Meetei woman they have remained silent.
During the Kuki women incident, various organisations from both hill and valley staged protests and expressed their condemnation, but in case of Churachandpur incident no one has come forward from hills against the rape incident, which is unfortunate, she observed.
She then demanded the government to arrest the perpetrators of the rape case and killing of three Meeteis at Kwakta Lamkhai Ward No 8 on August 5.Berating AR for their biased action and siding with Kukis, Kh Mema also called for removal of AR from the state.
The protest also opposes any plan for separate administration and breaking the state's integrity, she added.
Similar protests were also held at Waikhong Ima Thumkhong Lairembi ground and Waikhong Uyung Khunou.
A sit-in protest was also organised by Langathel Apunba Meira Paibi at Langathel Laikom Keithel, Thoubal district on Monday demanding state government to punish the perpetrators involved in gang rape of a Meetei woman in Churachandpur on May 3 .
Another protest condemning the gang rape was also held at Heirok-II Bazar Mamang by Friends in Need Society (FINES), Heirok.
