Exiled heroes of Anglo-Manipur War felicitated

Department of Art & Culture on Monday, felicitated the exiled heroes of Anglo-Manipur War 1891 and their families as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav at a function held at Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College, Palace Compound, Imphal.
Taking part as functional president, art & culture commissioner M Joy said that the state gets an opportunity to instil the sense of patriotism and sacrifice by the brave heroes of Manipur by paying tribute to these exiled heroes.
"When we stand together, no one can destruct or interfere the integrity of the state which our forefathers had given to us.
We should all work together to save the integrity of the state without the difference of religions or communities.
Those unsung heroes who took part in the Anglo-Manipur War remind us of their supreme sacrifice for the state," he said.
Later, the commissioner administered a pledge as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Historical & Cultural Research Centre president Naoroibam Indramani attended the programme as chief guest and said that Manipur has a long history and people should respect these unsung heroes.
A total of 23 heroes and their families, who were exiled to Andaman & Nicobar Islands, after the 1891 Anglo- Manipur War were felicitated on the occasion.
As mark of respect to these heroes, shawls and mementos were presented to the family members.
