Speaking on the occasion, JCILPS convenor recalled how Manipur, which was an independent kingdom for thousands of years, lost its independence due to infighting and disunity among the royalties.
The British hoisted Union Jack on April 27, 1891 following Manipur's defeat but regained independence on August 14, 1947 before Manipur was merged with the Union of India in 1949, he recalled.
He also decried the divide and rule policy followed by India from the British in the present era and its ill effects.
He also highlighted the differential treatment the people of Manipur had to endure today due to the Kuki aggression.
Phulindro also stressed on the need of extirpating illegal immigrants from the soil of Manipur to help restore normalcy and peace in the State.
