Imphal, August 14 2023:
Gover-nor Anusuiya Uikey has conveyed her heartiest greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Independence Day 2023 .
In a statement, the Governor said that since inde- pendence, India has made great strides in all fields and is targeting to be in the comity of leading Nations of the world.
Technological strides have been made to ensure that no citizen is left hungry or illiterate and progress is equitable.
Though major progress has been made in most of the socio-economic development areas, challenges still remain to be tackled, said the Governor in her Independence Day message.
She further urged all citizens to work together and bring emotional integrity and ensure that every part of the country is developed equally so that there is no sense of discrimination.
On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day of India, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has also extended warm greetings to the people along with addressing the ongoing conflict.
Stating that this is an occasion to reflect on the freedom that citizens of India enjoy, the Chief Minister recalled a celebrated poem by Rabindranath Tagore that talks about freedom, where people live without fear, with dignity, without social barriers and where actions are based on truth and rationality.
Referring to the present crisis, the Chief Minister said that the State is going through one of the most difficult periods in its long history as the conflict is unprecedented in the scale and context of violence.
"People on both sides of the conflict are engaged in acts of violence, guided by thoughts of hatred and vengeance.
The voices of reason hardly appeal to them.
But with over 150 dead and hundreds injured, homes and places of faith razed to the ground, we are not leaving a good legacy for our children and our future generations", he said.
The Chief Minister maintained that the State should rise above confines of community affiliations and work for peace, understanding and reconciliation.
Though provocative actions may test the State's patience and goodwill, but in a battle against divisive forces, the State must also remain strong and resilient.
"In the end, truth and peace will prevail", the Chief Minister asserted.
Extending his warm wishes on this occasion, Power Minister Th Biswajit Singh called upon the people to pay tribute to freedom fighters and valiant soldiers for their courage, bravery and sacrifice for the Nation's freedom.
He also urged people to promote patriotic fervour and carry forward the Nation's rich culture and tradition and develop a National outlook and commitment to attain excellence in all spheres to make India a global leader.
