1st round of INI conducted successfully in Ukhrul

The first round of the Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 5.0 targeting left out doses has been successfully conducted in Ukhrul district from August 7 to 12.Interacting with media persons at his office, here, on Friday, District Immunisation Officer (DIO) Dr Pamza informed that around 200 doses were covered among children and pregnant women in the district during the first round.
According to Dr Pamza, the IMI programme is the government's enhanced immunisation schedule that covers 12 different diseases, namely Polio, Measles, Diphtheria, Hep B, flu, rota virus and Pneumonia among others.
Following the success of the first round of IMI in Ukhrul district, Dr Pamza has announced that the second and third rounds of this immunisation programme would be held from August 7 to 12 and from September 11 to 16 respectively.
He continued that the programme was started with the aim to reach more children and to address those who could have been left out from the regular/routine immunisation schedule.
The government has already set a target to completely eradicate the diseases, and IMI is one of the many steps taken up towards this goal.
Remote and hard to access areas including PHSCs of Awung Kasom, Chingai, Chingjaroi, Shangshak, Sanakeithel were covered during the first round wherein the respective local PHSC staffers coordinated with the department, he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Pamza disclosed the difficulties faced by the department due to inadequate staffers especially Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM), while adding that the department currently has only 24 ANM staffers in the district.
He also acknowledged the role of Churches Auxiliary for Social Action (CASA) that extended its voluntary services during the first round.
