Kakching, January 21 2024:
Moyon Students' Union (Thiimziih Teen Bujuur Ruwrkheh - TTBR) has expressed deep concern over ambiguity of the government of India on the Indo-Naga peace talks.
While expressing optimism about progress of the peace talks, the union voiced dismay over what it called anti-Naga policies adopted by the Union government.
TTBR specifically condemned continuous imposition of the AFSPA in Naga areas and demanded immediate revocation of pro-military Act asserting that it disregards the basic human rights of the Nagas.
The statement questioned the government's commitment to peace while perpetuating what it sees as oppression under the guise of national security.
With reference to the recent announcement by the Union Government for fencing of the Indo-Myanmar border and suspension of the Free Movement Regime (FMR), the union said such both measures are deliberate attempt to divide the Nagas.
Expressing strong opposition, TTBR declared its stand against Indo-Myanmar physical border fence or line in the Naga areas and rejected the imposition of restrictions on the Nagas' free movement within their own areas, emphasising that Nagas do not accept any Indo-Myanmar boundary in their territory.
The union also announced its decision not to extend cooperation to the Central security forces as long as AFSPA is not revoked from Naga areas.
The union questioned how the Nagas could have confidence in the Government of India when their everyday lives are under constant monitoring.
TTBR emphasised that it will stand firm against any fencing project or movement restrictions that threaten the unity, fraternity, and existence of the Nagas.
The union pledged to defend the Nagas against such projects, asserting the right to travel freely.
In conclusion, TTBR prayed for the well-being and safety of the Moyon Nagas in Myanmar, underscoring the union's concern for the broader Naga community both within India and across international borders.
