Meewakching raises over Rs 80,000 for displaced families

Imphal, January 21 2024:
Manipuri rock band 'Meewakching' recently embarked on a tour to contribute to the welfare of the people who have been displaced by the ethnic violence/ unrest which began in Manipur on May 3 last year.
According to a release issued by Meewakching, the post-punk rock band based in Manipur though its "Live Aid For The Relief Tour" successfully raised over Rs 80,000, which will be used towards supporting displaced families.
The tour made possible by SkillBox, an Entertainment Platform, began at Urban Mantra Lounge Zoo Road, Guwahati, followed by another show at Indie Carnevil (Club Edition), Saket Social, Delhi.

The Meewakching team have already begun their relief work by visiting Tangjeng (Mangjing) Relief Camp, which accommodates about 30 families (130 persons) .
The team also visited the Okshongbung Relief Camp in Moirang and provided relief materials including vegetables, stationery items, charcoal, etc to around 200 people staying there.
Silheiba Ningombam, vocalist of Meewakching said, "We believe in the power of art and music as a critical tool during times of crisis.
Throughout history, it has been proven that art, and music can change the world.
We also stand in solidarity with the artists and musicians whose voices and creativity have been suppressed because of the ongoing conflict" .
Meewakching also stated that they will also be distributing educational and stationery materials to help the displaced students who are appearing in the board and council exam this year.
Notably, Meewakching made its debut with an EP titled "Ekhenglakta" in 2020 followed by an album "Thengmankhre Hee Ado Lakpa, Eikhoidi Sikhiba Kuire Erolnungda" which was released in 2021 .
The band's latest EP "The Land" with lyrics concerning the Meitei-Kuki Violence was released in August 2023 .
