Deadline set to deploy state forces

Villagers of Moirangpurel, Itham, Tumukhong and Laikhong villages under Imphal East have demanded deployment of state forces in these areas to safeguard the life and properties of the villages, by January 24 .
The villagers also cautioned that in case of any untoward incidents in these villages due to failure to honour their demands that the state government shall be held responsible.
The villagers raised the demands during sit-in protests held in their respective villages on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters on the side-lines of the protest at Moirangpurel, Moirangpurel Apunba Meira Lup general secretary Sairiya Moirangthem informed that the people of Moirangpurel, Itham, Tumukhong and Laikhong villages have been living in state of uncertainty and tension following the attacks by armed Kuki militants since May 3, 2023 .
She further stated that the government should take effective measures to protect the villagers from Kuki militants by deploying adequate number of state forces in these Meetei villages.
The secretary also claimed to have reports about presence of Kuki militants on the eastern side of these villages thereby heightening tension in the area.
