Village volunteers force 'lyum' formed

Imphal, January 21 2024:
A village volunteer force christened 'Iyum', having trained 300 volunteers, has been established on Sunday with the formal function held at Nilakuthi Mela ground.
The function which commenced with unfurling of the 'Iyum' flag , was attended by Apunba Koirengei Wangma Village Development Committee president Phijam Priyokumar, lyum volunteer leader W Jiten, Nilakuthi Meira Paibi president Paonam Pema and Awang Potshangbam Meira Paibi member Nameirakpam Nayani as presidium members.
Meira paibi activists from different parts of the state came along with offerings (Athenpot) and blessed the newly volunteers of the village force.
A 2-minute silence was also observed during the function as a mark of respect to those who have lost their lives in the ethnic violence.
Delivering the keynote address of the function, W Jiten clarified that 'Iyum' is not against any community or individual living in the state but established to drive away the illegal immigrants from the state.
The volunteers underwent training and are well versed with rules and regulations of the force.
He also appealed to all concerned to extend support to the newly established force.
