Imphal, January 21 2024:
The State Government has been urged to send and deploy adequate State security personnel at Itham, Moirangpurel and Tumukhong located in the periphery of Imphal East district by January 24 .
The demand was raised by the womenfolk of Itham, Moirangpurel and Tumukhong during sit-in protests staged at their respective localities today.
Similar placards with inscriptions "Drive out Kuki militants," "Protect Meitei people living in foothill areas" and "Deploy additional State security forces" were used at all the three protest sites.
At Tumukhong near Maphou Dam, one Chingakham Ibemhal said that Kuki militants often attack and bombard their village from the nearby areas.
She said that one person from the locality, Chingakham Lamyanba got killed in the Kuki militants' attack on December 31 while another local Sorokhaibam Ibochouba sustained grievous injury on January 18 .
There is no respite in Kuki militants' attacks at Tumukhong, Moirangpurel, Itham, Keithelmanbi and other Meitei villages situated near foothill areas, she said and urged the Government to deploy adequate security forces at the vulnerable Meitei villages to save lives of innocent villagers and properties.
She said that they will launch a strong agitation if their demand is not entertained.
Further stating that they have received information of more Kuki militants camping in the nearby areas to attack them, Ibemhal maintained that they can't even sleep properly and are restless as they can be attacked anytime.
At Moirangpurel, local meira paibi leader Sahiya Moirangthem said that they have been urging the Government to deploy more security personnel in their areas to avert Kuki militant's attack but to no avail.
She then urged the Government to understand their sentiment and address their demand by January 24 .
