Imphal, December 18 2023:
Recalling a high court order for implementing a welfare scheme for retired home guard personnel, the Manipur Home Guard Employees' Welfare Association (MHGEWA) has appealed to the state government to uphold the court order and take up necessary steps at the earliest.
Addressing a press meet at its Luwangshangbam office on Monday, association president Y Mangi said that the home guard personnel are engaged in different duties.
Unfortunately, they do not enjoy pension facility or any other entitlements after retirement.
As such, the Association has been pursuing with the government to implement a welfare scheme for retired home guard personnel.
With all their appeals falling on deaf ears, they had to approach the high court of Manipur in 2021.The court called counter affidavit from the government on multiple occasions but the government did not submit any.
Consequently, the high court directed the government to translate into action the representation of the association within three months, he said and expressed hope that the government will uphold the court directive.
Y Mangi further said that fulfilling the demands of the association would meant at least a welfare scheme for retired home guard personnel if not a pension scheme.
This will address financial issues of retired personnel, the president said and appealed to all concerned to stop spreading misleading information about the association, which has been working for the welfare of the home guard personnel since its inception.
Negating a rumour involving the association in the recruitment of home guard personnel, he clarified that the association has no involvement in the recruitment except for an appeal to the government to conduct open recruitment.
