Senapati, April 16 2024:
The 43rd World TB Day 2024 was observed at DRDA Conference Hall, Senapati.
Adahrii Maheo, CEO ADC Senapati, and Dr Sumpi Percy, CMO Senapati, attended the event as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Dr S Lohrii, principal Mt Zion College, Kathikho karong, Senapati District Students Association (SDSA), and members of Senapati District Women's Association (SDWA) were also present as special invitees.
In her welcome address, Dr L Muanching, DTO, explained that tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious communicable disease that can attack any part of the body except hair and nails, spreading through air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks.
Developing TB disease depends on risk factors like malnutrition, poverty, alcohol and tobacco users, immunocompromised conditions, and discrimination and stigmas, Muanching further explained.
The DTO then stressed the need to reach the unreached for quality TB services.
The doctor also informed that the TB Free Senapati Project was initiated in February 2023 with funding from ICMR to find, treat, and prevent all TB cases.
The district has 200-plus active volunteers from over 150 villages working to identify, diagnose, link, and treat TB cases with minimum incentives, the DTO added.
Adahrii Maheo, CEO ADC Senapati, noted the humanitarian challenges caused by TB and the link between a healthy society and socio-economic development.
He expressed happiness at the active involvement of CSOs and student leaders in eradicating the disease within the district, ensuring the district can achieve its target in the near future.
Dr S Lohrii praised the DTO for their initiative to eradicate TB in the district, and urged everyone to follow medical instructions and not be afraid of the disease.
He also urged the college principal to openly share their illness and seek advice from experts, while encouraging the gathering to extend their service to save lives.
Dr Sumpi Percy, CMO Senapati, highlighted the challenges in TB elimination, stating that weaker immune systems can lead to active TB.
She emphasised the importance of maintaining strong health.
