National Road Safety observance begins

Imphal East district deputy commissioner Khumanthem Diana on Monday inaugurated the observance of National Road Safety Month for Imphal East district, at the DG Complex in Porompat.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Diana remarked that many lives have been lost due to negligence in following traffic rules and regulations.
She informed that during the observance, checkpoints will be set up at six locations, namely DC Complex gate Kongba road, Tinsid road, Sajiwa Jail road, Koirengei road and Dingku road, wherein officials from Transport Office will "educate" commuters riding two-wheels without helmets, talking on phone while driving and driving without wearing seat belts.
In addition, pamphlets and stickers on traffic rules along with helmets will be distributed to the people, while retro reflective tapes will be pasted on heavy commercial vehicles, she added.
The National Road Safety Month is being observed under the Ministry of Highways and Transport with the aim of spreading awareness amongst traffic rule violators and prevent occurrence of any road accidents.
