Imphal, August 03 2023:
While noting that Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga has been overtly displaying affection towards the armed Kuki outfits waging war in Manipur, Citizen for Justice suggested that bodies of those slain Kukis be buried in Mizoram and not at Torbung Bangla village in Manipur.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday, retired district and sessions judge A Noutuneshwori, who is also vice chairperson of Citizen for Justice, said that the state government should conduct verification process to establish whether the bodies laying at RIMS and JNIMS mortuaries are that of Meiteis, tribal or people from Myanmar.
She further stated that if at all the bodies at the mortuaries turn out to be of Kukis from outside the state, their burial should not be in Manipur as demanded by the Kukis.
Moreover, bodies at Churachandpur district hospital morgue should be verified to ascertain the number of Meiteis among them.
She also deplored reports that the Churachandpur SP had mentioned cause of deaths of Meiteis killed in the district during the riot as natural 6r accidental deaths in the FIRs registered.
Suggesting proper verification on the matter and making the findings public, she said bodies of missing students and other Meiteis abducted/killed by Kuki militants should be handed over to the Meitei community by the police deployed in Churachandpur.
Welcoming the directive of Manipur High Court for maintaining status quo at Torbung Bangla where Kuki organisations planned to mass bury deceased Kukis, she regretted that in-spite of aware that the present crisis in Manipur is fallout of the demand for Kuki homeland by the armed Kuki militants from across the border, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home minister Amit Shah have not taken up any initiative to control the situation but supporting the Kukis.
Therefore, it would be more appropriate to provide the Kuki Homeland in Gujarat, comparatively much bigger state than Manipur which is also the home state of PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah.
Chipping in Citizen for Justice chairperson Khaidem Mani, questioned as to why the state government is not taking up any action against MLA Paolienlal Haokip who had proposed bifurcation of Manipur into three union territories.
Strict actions should be initiated against any individual trying to destroy the territorial integrity of Manipur, he demanded and pointed out that in case bodies JNIMS morgue and other hospitals turn out to be of illegal immigrants from Myanmar, then the compensation amount of Rs 10 lakh cannot be enjoyed by them.
Therefore, their identity should be properly ascertained and made known to the public, Mani Stressed.
