Bid to snatch arms foiled, PS stormed

Security forces resorted to firing tear gas shells and smoke bombs after a group of people made an attempt to snatch firearms and ammunition from the 2nd Manipur Rifles battalion near North AOC on Thursday during which at least two persons sustained injuries.
At about 10.30 am, a mob of around 100 made an attempt to snatch firearms from the 2nd MR battalion triggering a tense situation.
Soon, additional forces of MR, Manipur police along with personnel of Jat Regiment and RAF rushed there and tried to disperse the mob.
As the mob continued to gather in a nearby place, the security personnel fired tear gas shells to which the mob retaliated by pelting stones and slingshots.
As the security force managed to disperse the mob up to Chingmeirong and North AOC, more mobs gathered and blocked the road resulting in further use of force by the security personnel, who finally controlled the situation.
One Yaikhom Inaocha (51) of Sekta Mayai Leikai and S Rambo (35) of Yumnam Patlou Awang Leikai got hit by tear gas shells and were rushed to Raj Medicity.
Imphal PS also detained 14 youths in relation with the incident.
ADM Imphal West also came to the spot and took stock of the situation.
On the other-hand, ahead of the proposed burial bodies of Kukis at Torbung Bangla on Thursday, a large crowd thronged Singjamei PS at Kakwa on Thursday.
Police personnel posted at the station fired several tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
Shortly after, additional police forces arrived in the area but were attacked with slingshots and stones pelted by the young men mixed in the crowd.
However, the situation did not escalate to an extreme point.
