Imphal, August 03 2023:
Cultural activist Ningthouja Lancha has alleged that after widespread destruction of sites holding spiritual significance to the Meiteis, a scheme is afoot to target the historical places next.
Ningthouja Lancha made the claim during a ceremony held to offer floral tribute to the brave souls who had lost their lives in the midst of this conflict at Social Welfare Club community hall, Kwakeithel Nganapithong Mapal today.
The ceremony was jointly organised by the Social Welfare Club and Nupi Lup Kwakeithel Nganapithong Mapal.

Addressing the gathering, Ningthouja Lancha said that the dismantling of the Meiteis' spiritual spaces and designs to target historical places is a very serious matter.
Claiming that the move to hold a mass burial at Torbung Bangla is a part of this scheme, he appealed against firing tear gas shells and bullets at meira paibis who are protesting against this move while reasoning that the people are fighting for the whole of Manipur.
Lamenting over news of many people being injured in today's stand-off in connection with the attempt to conduct a mass burial at Torbung Bangla, he questioned why people are being stopped from entering their own land, Torbung.
"Our agricultural fields, villages and homesteads appear to be slowly overtaken by the other community and it is time for people to contemplate these issues deeply", he added.
Further, he expressed grief that Manipur has assumed the status of a lawless land without proper Government machinery and no one to defend the Meitei community.
Sticking to the "minority tag" while carrying out unspeakable violence upon the Meitei community is nothing short of a genocidal act, he maintained, while also accusing the Central Government of not taking up any concrete actions.
Consequently, a speedy solution must be brought and people should be allowed to return to their fields and villages otherwise there are clear indications of an impending public uproar.
The masses should also be prepared for this eventuality, he said.
He added that the relevant authority should acknowledge the public sentiment and initiate steps to bring about a solution.
Notably, Leimapokpam Lakpati, Nata Sankirtan Guru; Hemanta Ningomba, editor, Sanaleibak daily and M Sanajaoba, president, Social Welfare Club attended the event as presidium members.
During the event, womenfolk from Thouda Bhabok Leikai, Kwakeithel Thokchom Leikai and Irom Pukhri Mapal also paid floral tribute to the Meitei martyrs.
