Imphal, February 05 2024:
The seven-day state level basic training programme on Bee Keeping organised by Manipur Bee Keeping & Honey Mission of the Department of Horticultural & Soil Conservation, Manipur under the sponsorship of National Bee Board, concluded on Monday.
Addressing trainees at the valedictory function, director (horticultural & soil conservation) K Devdutta Sharma said that Manipur is passing through a difficult phase and many termed it as a 'war' between two communities but the horticulture sector cannot stop its activities despite facing such a challenging situation.
Rather, people should work hard to make the state self-sufficient in food production, he stressed while pointing out that from early morning till late night, people of Manipur rely on goods brought from outside, a condition from which extrication would be very difficult in the near future if efforts are not made to increase production of food-crops at-least to meet the local demands.
The director underscored the need for discarding the concept of relying completely on products imported from outside.
According to Devdutta Sharma, firm commitment and dedication are required to increase production and export surplus produces of the state.
He said that people should discard the thought of getting mere subsidy and grant from projects/schemes launched by the department and officials of the department too need to work with sincerity.
The valedictory function of the training programme held at conference hall of horticultural & soil conservation department was also attended by MIDH and MBHM mission director Md Jakir Hussain Khan, deputy director (horticultural & soil conservation) Lenin Khwairakpam and MIDH officials and staff.
