Public convention on 'Future of Manipur' held

A public convention on 'Future of Manipur' was organised by Khuman United Clubs and Meira Paibi Association (KUCMA), Mayang Imphal at Khuman Mini Stadium in Mayang Imphal Konchak, on Saturday.
The convention was attended by KUCMA president N Kironba, advisor Chongtham Shyamchandra, vice president Leitanthem Ibomcha, Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS) president Th Manihar, political activist Maheshwar Thounaojam, cyclist/ social activist Rohan Philem, Meitei Pangal Eegi Khonggul Liba president BM Yaima, IFCD retired executive engineer N Nabadwip, Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, Mayang Imphal vice president Ashem Memcha, Apunba Loumee Lup Manipur secretary Haobijam Ibobi and KUCMA women wing secretary Th Rebika Leima.
Speaking at the event, Maheshwar Thounaojam expressed that the humanitarian crisis has laid bare the fact that Manipur and its people lack political refinement.
While emphasising on the importance of getting acquainted with nuances of politics, he also suggested that the state government take effective measures to ensure safe return of the internally displaced persons to their respective homes at the earliest in addition to taking up steps to exclude the Kukis from the ST list.
In his address, FOCS president Th Manihar noted that continuous attacks by armed Kuki-Zo militants are making the Meetei people restless and agitated.
If the state and central governments cannot put an end to the crisis, it is time authority concerned hand over responsibility of facing the Kuki militants to the people of Manipur, he asserted.
Maintaining that the present unrest situation is worse than being under the President's Rule, he said latest incident of the Kukis attacking the Meeteis in different places leading to the death of a civilian and injury to two police commandos testifies that the government is unable to deal with the Kuki militants.
As the government authorities are unable to contain violence perpetrated by the Kuki militants, the people should be entrusted to defend the land from the Kukis in addition to advising the central forces not to interfere in the battle between the Kukis and the people.
