CM launches six new schemes, calls for shunning violence
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, December 30 2023: With the arrival of the New Year-2024, chief minister N Biren Singh has strongly called for shunning violence and strive for dialogue to bring back peace and normalcy in the state.

The chief minister made the appeal during launch of six new schemes for the welfare of the people particularly women, students, sportspersons and farmers.

The schemes are Chief Minister's Farmer Livelihood Support Scheme, Chief Minister's Khungang Ama Sanabung Ama (one village, one playground), Chief Minister's Sportpersons Livelihood Guarantee Scheme, Scheme for Construction of Recognised Tribal Libraries with Digital Infrastructure, Chief Minister's Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme, School Fagathansi Mission 2.0 and College Fagathansi Mission.

Launching the schemes in the presence of media persons and officials of departments concerned at the CM secretariat on Saturday, N Biren mourned the death of a village volunteer early Saturday morning due to gun-shot wound.

The incident came amidst the collective efforts by government machinery, CSOs of both hills and valley, Meira Paibis, youth and others to bring back peace in the state, he said while cautioning that there are certain elements inimical to return of peace in the state.

The chief minister also affirmed that those involved in Saturday morning's firing attack will pursued and punished.

According to CM Biren, people of Manipur are passing through a difficult period and accordingly government discussed problems of the people thoroughly and decided to the launch six new schemes.

Apart from these schemes, government would provide financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to every family displaced due to the unprecedented conflict in the state.

The financial support from the government would be provided from January, 2024 in four instalments of Rs 25,000 each, Biren said.

He further said that as majority of the paddy fields in the state remains fallow after harvesting paddy rice the Chief Minister's Farmer's Livelihood Support Scheme is primarily aimed at encouraging multiple cropping and improving economy of the farmers.

The scheme will be taken up through the Planning Department with provision for providing farm machineries to farmers.

Under the Chief Minister's Khungang Ama Sanabung Ama scheme, one playground will be developed for each assembly constituency where no playground is available.

The purpose of the scheme is to bring grassroots sports development and provide a healthy recreation facility for the youth.

Under this scheme, all the 60 assembly constituencies will have one playground each.

Further, the Chief Minister's Sportpersons Livelihood Guarantee Scheme is a new initiative taken up by the government to facilitate players in finding a way of life and means of livelihood.

In the first phase 1,000 sportspersons will be covered, Biren said.

The chief minister further informed that museums and libraiy halls of different recognised tribes would be enhanced with construction of annex building for digital infrastructure from January next year.

Elaborating on the Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme, which he launched on the Nupi Lal Day recently, the chief minister said the scheme provides a monetary benefit of Rs 500 per month to women who are above 40 years, not beneficiaries of any existing government schemes and are living without any source of livelihood.

It aims to empower women, fostering economic independence and contributing to their overall well-being, he added.

Regarding the School Fagathansi Mission, N Biren informed that under the mission, 120 schools had already been covered earlier, for which requisite infrastructure had been developed.

Further, under the new School Fagathansi Mission 2.0, another 120 schools will be covered, he explained.

The College Fagathansi Mission aimed at improving government colleges will fund 20 colleges in the first phase at Rs 2.5 crore each for infrastructure development, he added.

The chief minister further informed that a 50-bedded building would be constructed under MAHUD to accommodate orphans who are above 18 years of age.

More such facilities will be constructed as per necessity to support their livelihood, he assured and noted with satisfaction that free rice distribution under PM-GKAY to the beneficiaries every month has been extended till 2028.Concluding his briefing, N Biren extended warm wishes to the people of the state in the New Year 2024.Responding to a query, CM Biren said there will no difference whether Congress leader Rahul Gandhi visits the state or not.

There will be no harm when Rahul Gandhi launches his Bharat Nyay Yatra from Imphal but people of the state would not support him as his party is responsible for the present situation in the state, the chief minister contended.

Earlier, Biren released calendar and diary for the year 2024 of the state home department.
