International Day of PwDs observed across state

Imphal, December 03 2022: As in other parts of the state, Regional Institute of Handicapped Persons (RIPH) and District Disabilities Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC) observed International Day of Persons with Disabilities (PwD)-2022 under the theme 'Transformative Solutions For Inclusive Development: The Role of Innovation in Fuelling an Accessible and Equitable World' at RIHP auditorium hall, Yairipok Bamol Leikai, Thoubal district on Saturday.

The programme was attended by locomotor disabled Waikhom Devala Devi as chief guest, Veterinary Department's retired joint director & RIPH president Dr Maibam Rajendra as president and state commissioner of PwD Th Dilipkumar Singh as guest of honour.

As part of the observance, Unique Disability Identity Cards (UDIDs), certificates and blankets were distributed to students of the institute along with presentation of entertainment programmes by the students.

In Ukhrul district the observance function was organised at DRDA Hall, Ukhrul by the district administration in collaboration with district social welfare officer (DSWO), District Disability Rehabilitation Centre and Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development Rehabilitation Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Imphal (CRCSRE) on Saturday.

The observance was attended by Ukhrul deputy commissioner Krishna Kumar, DSWO Kangujam Nongpoknganba Salaicha and DDRC nodal officer Yumnam Dhanbir Singh as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.

Altogether, 50 differently-abled people were provided aids and appliances like wheelchair, walking stick, hearing aid, cluster elbow and blankets during the programme.

Achievement of Rising Maiden (ARM), Jiribam, DSWO, Jiribam and zonal education officer (ZEO), Jiribam jointly observed International Day of PwDs under the year's theme at Institute of Children with Disabilities (ICD), Lakhipur on Saturday.

The observance was attended by Jiribam DC W Malemnganba Chenglei as chief guest and ZEO deputy inspector of schools Lukram Roshan Meetei as guest of honour.

Jiribam District Hospital chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Elangbam Okendro Singh and social activist L Veerjeet Singh were also present at the event.

As a part of the observance, Seva Ratna awardee Dr Ksh Kala conducted door-to-door health checkup for 25 differently abled persons in Khundrakpam assembly constituency on Saturday.

Health Checkup for determining blood pressure and sugar level were conducted and medicines provided free of cost.

He also presented one blanket each to all the 25 differently abled persons while assuring of providing assistance to them from time to time.

Handicapped Development (HD) Foundation, Manipur and Advocate Leisangthem Roshmani Memorial Trust also observed the Day cum 3rd death anniversary of advocate Roshmani at Basanta Sapam Chaobi Integrated Training & Research Institute located at Lamdeng Makha Leikai on Saturday.

Speaking as chief guest of the observance, social worker W Sumati Devi called upon all sections of the society to treat the differently-abled people with respect and uphold their rights.

Urging parents and guardians to encourage and aid their differently abled wards pursue their lifegoal, she called for working together for the development of the society.

National and international awardee and Samvardhinee NYAS, Manipur co convenor Oinam Indira Devi, HD Foundation chairman Dr Sapam Jasowanta Singh and advocates Sairem Thoithoi and Roshan Moirangthem also addressed those gathered at the observance during which floral tributes were paid to the photo of Leisangthem Roshmani and meritorious award presented to differently abled students.

Type Writing Institute and Rural Development Service in association with TCI Foundation also observed the day under the theme 'Transformative Solutions for Inclusive Development: The Role of innovation in Fueling an Accessible and Equitable World' at Dhanan joy Physically Handicapped Residential School, Khong man, on Saturday.

Service advisor B Sorota and TCI Foundation's Dr Sanjiv and Dr Brittain attended the event as members of the dais.

A Covid vaccination programme for students and teachers of the school was also organised as part of the event.

Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), IED, Imphal East, ZEO Zone-II Imphal East also ob served the day at the ZEO office complex, Porompat under the same theme.

A painting competition was also organised as part of the observance which was participated by 25 differently abled students.

Apart from the winners, all the participants were encouraged by presenting gifts.

District programme manager Cha-nam Bobbychand spoke on the significance of the observance.

CP chair, MR kits and other aids & appliances were also distributed to differently abled persons.
