COTA, BKS, women leaders call on Guv Anusiya

Imphal, August 09 2023: Representatives of Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan, here, on Wednesday around 3pm and requested to arrange for conducting regular classes from Class I to XII in 28 schools which are currently being used as relief camps in nine districts of the State.

The team led by COTA convenor Laishram Jugindro and co-convenor Khwairakpam Jibon also submitted a three-point memorandum to the Governor urging her for making appropriate arrangement for shifting the internally displaced people (IDPs) as well as security forces from these schools so that normal classes could be started in these 28 schools.

The memorandum also mentioned the incident of kidnapping of two students recently, as heinous crime and condemned the act stating that targeting students in these situations should be stopped immediately.

It further urged the Governor to ensure that students can study in a safe and peaceful environment.

In response, the governor assured them that proper arrangement will be made in this regard and asked them to meet the chief secretary and the commissioner (Education).

She also assured that steps have been taken up to prevent incidents of kidnappings and booking all those involved in the said incidents.

She then said that strict security measures have been initiated and proper plans implemented to ensure the safety of students.

Later, conveying the details of the meeting to the media, COTA convenor Laishram Jugindro said that there are around 20000 teachers from primary to secondary level.

He then urged the teachers for extending support to the displaced students and helping them overcome this phase in their lives.

He also urged students not to be discouraged and continue to learn as much they can, while adding the association is taking up steps to assist the displaced students in relief camps.

Meanwhile, representatives of Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, Manipur Prant also called on governor Anusiya and requested to supply alternate crop seeds stating that paddy cultivation in the state has failed by 30 per cent due to scanty rainfall.

In a memorandum submitted to the governor, the Prant said that government should supply alternate crops for Kharif and Rabi season to the farmers to makeup the food scarcity in the state.

They also requested for supplying electric water pump instead of petrol and diesel pumps to the farmers to fight the water crisis.

The governor assured of extending all possible assistance from the side of her office and further asked them to go to the peripheral areas and talk to farmers where cultivation cannot be taken up due to the unrest and to put up their concerns in future.

On the other hand, Women leaders of Committee on Mass Protest against Assam Rifles called on the governor on Wednesday and submitted a memorandum through her to the Prime Minister.

The memorandum demanded removal of Assam Rifles (AR) from the entire state of Manipur and to take action against central forces personnel who indulged in excessive atrocities towards the Meira Paibi of Manipur.

They also demanded for deployment of state forces by imposing uniform laws of the land throughout the state of Manipur, especially in the affected areas such as Moreh, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, etc.
