Govt to promote HIT, conduct special coaching prog

Imphal, October 04 2022: Observing that people of the state seem unaware about existence of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (HIT) at Mantripukhri, education minister Th Basantakumar said that the government would organise mass awareness programmes on HIT and courses offered to promote the institute and conduct special coaching programmes to ensure higher enrolment from the state.

Attending the first convocation of HIT Manipur held at the auditorium of its temporary campus at Mantripukhri on Tuesday, Basantakumar said that HIT is an important institute offering advanced courses on information technology.

Considering the geographical condition of the state, information technology could be the future of the state and in order to encourage the youth to pursue the field, there is the need to give more emphasis on this.

Youth of the state should understand the opportunities in data analysis and artificial intelligence, whidr is the future of the world in this digital age, he said and added that the state is fortunate to have such institute.

The minister expressed concern over the low enrolment rate from among the native students.

Admission to the institute is made through all India competitive examination.

The state has no dearth of talents but they seem to lack awareness on such examinations and future opportunities in information technology.

In order to increase the enrolment rate of students from the state, the government will organise mass awareness programme and special coaching programmes under the guidance of the director of HIT Manipur.

He will also seek extra seat for students of the state, and the government will put its best efforts in this regard, the minister assured.

While congratulating the graduates for their achievement and wishing them good luck in their future career, the minister said that apart from academic excellence, they will need other skills as they will be part of a team when they join a company.

They should always project a positive attitude to scale further heights of success in their career, he said.

Stating how the Modi government is working towards promoting information technology, the minister said that the country will see a major change in the next five years and everybody needs to put their best efforts to become a part of that change.

Inter University Accelerator Centre, New Delhi director professor Avinash Chandra Pandey, IBT Manipur director professor Krishnan Bhaskar, additional chief secretary Vumlunmang, Babina Group of Industries managing director Dr Th Dhabali, and chairman & board members of HIT Manipur also attended the convocation ceremony.

Responding to questions from media persons, minister Th Basanta Kumar stated that teachers of all government schools m the state will be rationalised within the next few days.

The rationalisation process is not an easy task, he said, while explaining that if there are 100 teachers, it is easy to rationalise all 100 .

However, there are only 10,000 teachers out of the requirement of 17,000 as around 600-700 teachers retire from service every year.

In addition, no new teachers have been recruited in the last decade.

Thus, it is hard to satisfy the conditions of placing the teachers at suitable locations, preferably at schools in close proximity to their homes and ensuring good performance while also making sure the absentee teachers report to their respective work places.

As such, a team consisting of Directorate officials and officers are working tirelessly to prepare a data base for the same, he informed, while reiterating that the rationalisation will be done within the next few days.
