Bid to change CM akin to backing Kuki militants: SUK

Imphal, June 26 2023: The manner in which political parties of Manipur had put forward the demand for removal of N Biren Singh as chief minister instead of demanding for implementation of NRC and abrogation of SoO agreement to the centre is akin to supporting the nefarious agenda of armed Kuki militants, stated Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) .

Addressing media persons at its Wangkhei office here on Monday, SUK president Ningthoujam Dhanakumar Meetei said that the ethnic clash between the Meiteis and the Kukis is fallout of the government's drive against poppy plantation, war on drugs carried out against drug cartels and the obstruction to free flow of illegal immigrants (Chin-Ku-ki) from across the border.

Since outbreak of the com- munal violence on May 3 last, illegal Chin-Kuki immigrants from Myanmar along with the armed Kuki militants have been waging a war against the Meitei community, he said and added that as it now crystal clear about activation of 'narco-ter-rorism' campaign it is time we all come together to fight against the narco-terrorists and save Manipur.

It is time for all the political parties, MLAs, ministers and elected members to unite and chalk out strategies to solve the present crisis of Manipur, he stressed.

Dhanakumar further stated that representatives of all the political parties of the state met Union Home minister Amit Shah on June 24 during which they brought up various issues of the state at their own capacity.

However, the representatives failed to bring up the core issue of the demand for implemen tation of NRC in Manipur and abrogation of SoO.

Instead the political parties' representatives demanded the central leader for removal of CM which is also the demand of the Kuki militants.

Therefore, it would not be wrong to assert that the political parties are supporting the Kuki militants, the president reasoned.

He also stated that all political parties should understand that this is not the right time to demand for change of leadership and take political mileage out of the prevailing situation.

Cutting across party lines, the opposition and the ruling MLAs should take the stand to bring about an amicable solution to the problems besetting the state.
