Suspected ZRA cadres thrash cop in Churachandpur

Imphal, September 10 2023: Suspected ZRA cadres thrashed a police sub-inspector posted in Imphal East district in Churachandpur district on Saturday.

The SI has been identified as Sabir Ahmed (41) son of Sahid Ahmed, a Meitei Pangal resident of Yairipok Singa.

He was rescued by Churachandpur district police and handed over to members of Meitei Pangal Intellectual Forum in Kangvai, who handed him over to his family members.

According to Forum president Nasir Khan, SI Sabir Ahmed along with two other friends went to Churachandpur in his car on Saturday.

As they entered Churachandpur, they found Kuki women carrying out donation drive.

They gave some donations and took some photos and videos after getting their permission.

However, some suspected ZRA cadres abducted him while asking two of his friends to leave Churachandpur in another vehicle.

One of the two friends reported his abduction to the forum in the evening.

Soon, the forum members informed SP Churachandpur requesting him to rescue the SI.

Later, around midnight, OC of Churachandpur police station asked them over the phone to come and pick up the SI from Kangvai the next morning.

Consequently, forum members went to Kangvai on Sunday morning around 8 and Churachandpur police handed him and his car to them, he said.

Nasir Khan further said that SI Sabir told them that around 10 suspected ZRA cadres severely assaulted him while alleging him as a member of Arambai Tenggol upon finding a Salai Taret flag sticker on his car.
