Will implement Delhi PLV models in state: CJ Mridul

High Court of Manipur chief justice Siddarth Mridul has said that steps will be taken up to deliver justice to weaker sections of the society in Manipur and some of the models being adopted by Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) in Delhi to provide legal help to weaker sections will be implemented in the state.
Justice Siddarth Mridul stated this while addressing the gathering at the Legal Services Day cum Commendation Ceremony for the year 2023 organised by Manipur State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority at DRDA complex, Lamphelpat, here, on Thursday.
As chief guest of the event, justice Siddarth Mridul said that PLVs in Delhi under the aegis of Legal Services Authority of the Union Territory are taking up various steps to ensure complete legal opportunities and rights to weaker sections of the society.
Among the steps taken up by PLVs in Delhi include reaching out to police station and filing report when weaker sections of people face trouble, writing application and extending necessary legal assistance, etc.
PLVs in Delhi are also giving legal awareness to weaker sections and those who could not afford to personally visit legal institutions about their rights, Siddarth Mridul said, adding that he will start taking up steps to implement some of the models being followed by Delhi Legal Services Authority and PLVs in Delhi for weaker sections in Manipur.
He also said that judicial officers and those in legal profession need to shoulder responsibility in creating awareness to people about the importance of law and their rights.
The event was also attended by Manipur State Legal Services Authority executive chairman justice A Bimol Singh, High Court Legal Services Committee chairperson justice A Guneshor Sharma and Manipur high court judge justice Golmei G Kabui.
The justice trio talked about establishment of Manipur State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, its journey so far and role and responsibility.
At the event, lawyer Moirangthem Urmila was honoured and presented state best penal lawyer certificate, Potsangbam Tolen Christian as state best mediator, Ch Nabachandra as state best PLV, A Shashikumar as state best PLV student and Legal Aid Clinic, DC complex, Porompat as state best legal clinic.
