Hiyanglam by election : AITC MP assures to take up AFSPA issue

Imphal, October 12 2014: Asserting that the All India Trinamool Congress Party is making its presence felt in the country, its MP Dr Anupam Hajra today declared that if the AITC candidate is elected in the Hiyanglam by election then the party will definitely take up steps to withdraw the Armed Forces Special Powers Act which has been imposed for years, from the State.

Addressing the gathering at an election rally of AITC candidate Dr Yumnam Radheshyam at Langmeidong Public Ground today, Dr Hajra said that the Trinamool Congress has got its eyes on many of the issues besetting the State and added that it has always been trying to bring a solution to all the issues.

If the AITC candidate is elected in the by election then no efforts would be spared to see that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act is discussed thoroughly so that it can be repealed from the State.

Touching on other pressing issues as well as what the Trinamool Congress intends to do, Dr Hajra said that the border issue with Myanmar, wherein apprehensions have been raised that the neighbouring country may take away a large chunk of the State's territory due to the border fencing, would be dealt with all the seriousness it deserves.

Md Nadimun Huq, Rajya Sabha MP of the party said that if their candidate is elected then the demand to implement the Inner Line Permit System would be discussed on the floor of the House.

The identity of the indigenous people of the State would be protected, he declared.

Training its guns on the ruling Congress, the MP said that though unemployment is a serious problem, the State Government has so far done nothing for the numerous number of unemployed people.

To work towards providing employment, the AITC has got its eyes on opening a number of industrial units in the State, declared the MP.

Turning his attention to the large number of women gathered at the election rally, the MP said that their presence is more than indicative that Yumnam Radheshyam has got the goodwill of the womenfolk.

State unit president of the AITC, Th Shyamkumar assured the gathering that the party would put its best foot forward to fulfil the promises made to the people.

He added that the large turn out is enough indication that the victory of the AITC candidate is assured.
