NIPCO reaffirms stand on integrity, unity

Imphal, September 13 2022: National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) on Tuesday celebrated its 22nd foundation day in a function held at Ima Khunthokhanbi Shanglen, Thangmeiband, which was attended by representatives of different indigenous communities, and reaffirmed its stand on the unity and integrity of the state.

NIPCO president Oinam Premjit, Indigenous Minorities Organisation Manipur president Rengenson Thanga (Chiru), former NIPCO president M Medun Maring, Haomi Research Guild Manipur chairman Robin Shinglai (Tangkhul), Zeliangrong Union Assam, Manipur Nagaland chairman Athai Kamei (Kabui), Thangal Union Manipur art and culture convenor Sailash Ant (Thangal), GP Women's College professor Abdul Hakim Saha and Kharam Students' Union Manipur former president Abraham Shaichal (Kharam) attended the function, which was organised under the theme 'Rhythm of Unity' .

Speaking on the occasion, NIPCO general secretary Siraj Nongyaimayum recalled how the organisation was formed way back in 2000 with the objective to bring forth a public movement to protect territorial and emotional integrity among the indigenous communities and promote peace and unity in the state.

Since then, NIPCO has been working towards fulfilling its objective without any discrimination among the different communities.

Unfortunately, the Central government is adopting various tactics to disrupt the integrity, unity and harmony among the indigenous communities, which threatens the very identity of the state, and there is always the constant need for the people of different communities joining hands and charting a way forward for a better and collective future, he said.

The secretary further said that NIPCO and people of the state will rise up against any divisive policy or forces and fight them to maintain peace, integrity, unity and identity of the state.

People of the state will also fight for the protection of its territory, he added.

NIPCO president Oinam Premjit narrated activities taken up by it since its inception to bring harmony and brotherhood among the different communities living in the state.

NIPCO has been at the forefront of resolving issues that sparked tension between any two communities and they think that their efforts are paying good results.

He also maintained that development and prosperity will prevail in the state once the people of different communities co-exist peacefully and respect one another while caring for one another's welfare and future.

Leaders and representatives of different CSOs working for a united Manipur were honoured on the occasion.
