Imphal, August 30 2023:
Slamming the BJP governments, both at the Centre and in the state for their failure to contain the violence and honour sentiment and demands of the public for restoration of peace, Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace, Imphal convenor Laishram Memma has said that the double engine government of the BJP has derailed and faulty parts of the engine should be replaced.
Women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel ceased all activities and organised a sit-in protest on Wednesday for a couple of hours in response to the fresh attack carried out by Kuki militants in Naransena area.
They strongly condemned the attack by Kuki militants despite repeated assurances from the government and demanded stern measures to stop all types of violence in order to restore peace.
The protestors also raised strong objection against Assam Rifles for serving legal notice to RPI-A national secretary Th Maheshwar for speaking the truth.
Demanding the AR to withdraw the same, they warned of filing lawsuit against Assam Rifles while questioning the reason for central forces restraining state forces from retaliating the armed attack by Kuki militants.
They also demanded the government to replace Assam Rifles with another force.
They also expressed serious concern over the silence of PM, HM, CM and Governor towards the rape case of a Meetei woman in Churachandpur on May 3 and sought an explanation from the Governor for not visiting the Meetei rape survivor even though she met and provided Rs 10 lakh cash assistance to the Kuki women who were paraded naked.
The women vendors also strongly condemned the state assembly session held on Tuesday, which they termed as a smoke screen to cover up incompetency of the government.
Stating that they had hoped for adoption of firm resolution by the assembly but the government has betrayed the trust; the protestors rued and demanded another special session of the assembly at the earliest or to resign from their membership if the MLAs cannot carry out their responsibility and understand the aspiration of the public.
Unless the government acts in the interest of the public, there is no need for having a democratically elected government, they added.
