Several UCs nabbed with arms and ammunition

Imphal, March 30 2024: Combined teams of state and central forces nabbed several underground members and seized large quantity of arms and ammunitions during search operations conducted at different parts of the state in the past five days.

On March 25, an extensive cordon and search operation was conducted at Wangoo, Borayang-bi, Mangjing and Laingoubi in Bishnupur district based specific information that the areas have become safe haven for kidnappers/ miscreants.

The operation was conducted by a combined team of Bishnupur police commando and a column of 2 Maha Regiment under the overall supervision of SP Bishnupur Ksh Ravikumar Singh.

During the operation, the combined team recovered several arms, ammunition and other articles from Laingoubi, which was found to be used as camp by armed miscreants.

Among the arms recovered during the operation included one .303 Rifle (modified), one carbine with empty magazine, four 36 HE hand grenades with tube launching, one country made pistol, 10 BP helmets, 19 pairs of shoes, 12 belts, three BP jackets and two cartoon boxes of medical items.

All the recovered weapons and articles have been handed over to Kumbi police station for further necessary action.

On March 26, a team of Bishnupur district police commando conducted frisking near Mukta High School located along IVR between Moirang Thoya and Tronglaobi and nabbed four people including two bail-out members of an underground group and recovered some weapons from them.

The nabbed people have been identified as Salam Rameshwar (48) son of Yaima of Chandapur Mamang Leikai, Tongbram Gyanjit alias Chinglensana ( 39) son of late Ibomcha of Chandapur Mamang Leikai (bail-out), Pukhrem Ingocha (40) son of late Ibomcha of Moirang Khunou Hougrampat and Thokchom Temba alias Wakhei-ba (50) son of late Tomba of Phougakchao Ikhai Makha Leikai Ward No.3 (bail-out).

Three SLRs, four empty magazines, 20 live rounds of SLR, seven mobile phones, one Baofeng walky-talky set and two cars were recovered from them.

A combined team of Sagolmang PS, 22 AR and 4 CRPF also conducted search operation in Utonglok area on March 26 from 8.30am to 9.40 am and recovered one M-l carbine, one tear gas gun with one live shell and three hand grenades.

On March 27, a team of Imphal West police commando led by OC inspector Kh Henry conducted frisking and checking at Langol Meetei Leikai at about 1pm and nabbed a member of KCP (Noyon).

The nabbed KCP (N) member has been identified as Wahengbam Mathoi (32) son of late Thaba of Wabagai Tera -pishak but presently residing at Kyamgei Shantipur.

The same commando team also nabbed two active members of the underground group from Kakwa Naorem Leikai on the same day at about 1.45pm.The nabbed underground members have been identified as Sorensangbam Bungcha alias Winner (47) son of late Nilo of Naorem Leikai Liwa Road and Thongam Jonanda alias Boi-cha of Singjamei Khongnang Pheidekpi Aheibam Leikai.

One 9mm pistol with 10 live rounds and one magazine, two hand grenades, three live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, one empty magazine for INSAS, one KIA car and two mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

'On their disclosure during initial questioning, the same police commando team later nabbed Ak Sanjoy alias Herojit (38) son of late Hitler of Singjamei Makha Ningthoujam Leikai.

All the nabbed people disclosed that they worked under the command of KCP (N) publicity secretary Leishemba and carried out extortion from public and harbour weapons.

On the other hand, a team of Imphal West district police nabbed a person said to be member of KCP (N) on March 27 from Kakwa Naorem Leikai and recovered one hand grenade from his possession.

The nabbed person has been identified as Laishram Momo alias Kiran alias Macha (31) son of latte Sova of Naorem Leikai.

A combined team of Imphal East district police, 6 IRB and 4 AR conducted search operation at Pangei Chingkhong on March 27 from 3pm and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition believed to have been concealed by an underground group.

The recovered weapons included one .22 rifle with magazine, one 9mm SMG with magazine, one .65 pistol with magazine, 20 hand grenades without detonator and six 51mm live mortar shells.

On the other hand, a combined team of 16 AR, 22 AR, 169 CRPF and Saparmeina PS conducted search operation at Ikpan village under Sapar -meina PS in Kangpokpi district on March 27 and recovered several weapons and ammunition including one carbine gun and one 2inch mortar shell.

Again, on March 27, a combined team of Thoubal district police and 33 AR conducted search operation at Kwarok hill and recovered several weapons and ammunition.

The recovered weapons included one INSAS LMG with magazine, one 9mm SMG with magazine, one double barrel gun, five hand grenades, two mortar shells, one IED and three tear gar shells.

On March 28, a combined team of Bishnupur district police and Kumaon Regiment conducted search operation in Saiton and Santhong canal area and recovered several arms and ammunition.

The recovered weapons included Pompi RL, two local made single barrel guns, One SMC carbine with one magazine, 11 HE 36 hand grenades, Two NMM mine bombs, three Pompi shells, two para shells, one INSAS magazine with six live rounds, one SLR magazine, eight ballistic cartridges live rounds and four grenade launchers.

On the other hand, a team of Kakching district police conducted search operation near a farm located at Moirangpat Kachin on March 28 morning and recovered two Chinese hand grenades and one pistol with magazine.

Again, on March 28, a team of 21 AR opened a mobile check-post near Yangoubung village under Moreh PS from 7.40am.During the course of checking and frisking, a person coming on Kenbo bike was told to stop.

However, the biker lost control and met with self-accident and escaped towards Myanmar side.

On opening a huge cartoon box carried by the person, the AR team recovered one SLR, one pistol, one 12 bore rifle, 400 live rounds of 7.62mm calibre, 30 CTN ammunition, 50 live rounds of 5.56mm, 200gm gun powder, raw materials for making IED, three radio sets with batteries and 20 rounds of 12bore rifle.

On March 28.a team of 36 AR rushed to Bijang area under Sangaikot sub-division in Churachandpur district on receiving an input about movement of armed cadres of Kuki Liberation Army (KLA), a SoO signatory, in the area.

On seeing the AR team, three KLA cadres ran away.

However, the AR team managed to nab one cadre identified as Minsi (31) son of late Ngampao of Jangnongphai, Churachandpur.

One SLR with magazine and 18 live rounds, one AK -56 rifle, one INSAS magazine with 198 live rounds and two jackets with BP plates were recovered from the possession of the nabbed KLA cadre.
