State sees 32 more Omicron cases, 235 new infections

Imphal, January 17 2022: Amid the rapid spread of Covid-19 third wave and alarming spike in daily cases, 32 more Omicron cases were detected on Monday which took the total of Omicron variant in the state to 39 .

However, no information has been provided regarding whether any of them include foreign country returnees or all of them are locally transmitted cases.

While confirming detection of the new Omicron cases, health director Dr K Rajo said that with the latest variant spreading 'very fast' in various countries, all need to strictly adhere to Covid appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated without further delay.

"Masks have been found effective against all variants of Covid-19 .

Be alert and do not panic," the director said in a statement.

According to a reliable source, the 32 new Omicron cases were detected out of 42 samples tested the IBSD, Takyel.

Meanwhile, Monday also reported 235 fresh cases of Covid-19 out of 1974 samples examined, thus, registering a positivity rate of 11.9 per cent against 14.4 per cent recorded on Sunday.

The daily test rate still remains low despite the growing number of Covid cases.

No death case was reported on Monday and the toll stands at 2015 .

With the discharge of only 60 patients from home isolation (28), RIMS (2), JNIMS (6) and CCCs (24) in the last 24 hours, the active caseload rose to 1457 out of which 382 (26.22 per cent) are in home isolation.

There are 282 vacant beds available in JNIMS and 116 in RIMS but there is no updated information on availability of beds in Covid Care Centres.

Out of the 16 districts, 13 reported fresh Covid cases on Monday.

So far, the state has recorded 98,093 positive cases and 1641 fatalities since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic.

The current month has reported 1705 new positive cases and 13 fatality.

The weekly number of new cases and fatalities have also rose to 1265 and 4 respectively.

According to official reports, the 235 fresh cases included 220 people (114 male & 106 female) from among the general population and 15 of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) whose samples were confirmed at RIMS (23), JNIMS (16) and other testing centres (196).The positive cases from among the general population are from Imphal East (65 with test positivity rate of 18.9 pc), Imphal West (102/14.6 pc TPR), Thoubal (12/12.5 pc), Bishnupur (7/7.2 pc),Kakching (10/12.3 pc), Kangpokpi (4/7.8 pc), Kamjong (1/3.7 pc), Tamenglong (1/2.4 pc), Tengnoupal (1/11.1 pc), Jiribam (2/1.3 pc), Senapati (6/8.3 pc), Chandel (5/18.5 pc) and Churachandpur (4/10.5 pc) .

All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 1,27,493 (general population -1,22,760 and CAPF personnel - 4,733) .

Number of recovered cases is 1,24,021 (general population - 119,569 and CAPF personnel - 4,452) and number of active cases is 1457 (general population - 1182 and CAPF personnel- 275) .

The recovery rate further dipped to 97.28 per cent from 97.41 per cent on Sunday.

A total of 289 D-type and 56 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health facilities in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, only 1881 vaccine doses were administered on Sunday and it took the cumulative number of vaccinated persons to 13,61,821 out of which 10,19,550 have received second dose and 6065 administered the precautionary dose.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Irnphal West (44,762), Imphal East (28,306), Thoubal (9574), Churachandpur (10,401), Kangpokpi (2818), Tamenglong (3291), Bishnupur (9288), Senapati (2310), Ukhrul (3072), Kakching (6508), Chandel (2467), Noney (1097), Tengnoupal (1090), Jiribam (1051), Kamjong (994) and Pherzawl (464).Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (676), Imphal East (483), Thoubal (179), Churachandpur (163), Kangpokpi (64), Tamenglong (14), Bishnupur (195), Senapati (lb), Ukhrul (45), Kakching (116), Chandel (41), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (13), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (5) and Pherzawl (0) .

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 41,087 confirmed cases per million population (based on project ed population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 26,683 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 4,81,380 tests per million population against the national average of 5,02,364 TPM.

Case fatality fate stands"at 1.58 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, only 1974 samples were tested and the single day positivity fate was 11.90 per cent while the cumulative positiyity rose to 8.54 per cent.
