4-wheeler of ex-NPF leader torched, many condemn

Senapati, October 07 2022: Unknown miscreants set ablaze a four-wheeler parked at a residence located at Taphou Naga village, some 1 and half km away from Senapati police station.

Villagers told the media that the incident took place between 1-2 pm on Friday, saying that they came to know about the incident when they heard the alarm sounded from the four-wheeler (Scorpio) .

The villagers rushed in with buckets of water and managed to put out the fire.

The miscreants also reportedly poured petrol on the sofa and blankets kept at the veranda of the house but presumably ran away after the alarm of the vehicle went off when it caught fire.

CCTV camera was installed at the front gate of the residence, but miscreants are suspected to have entered the compound from the backside of the house.

The owner of the ill-fated vehicle has been identified as one Robert T Maram, s/o Kh Talu (village chief) of Taphou Naga village, who was an independent MLA candidate from Tadubi AC during the last state assembly election.

Robert T Maram was also the former working president of the Naga People's Front, Manipur State Unit (NPF-MSU) before he contested the election.

Addressing media persons, Taphou Naga village secretary Karaiba condemned the unprecedented incident and termed it as a heinous crime intended to disturb the peaceful atmosphere.

He also demanded those involved in the incident to disclose the reason for their act at the earliest while ap pealing to the police to find out the culprits and book them according to law.

Senapati Police collected some items used during the attack by the miscreants.

On behalf of the villagers, youth organisation and women organisation of Taphou Naga village, Karaiba condemned the incident in the strongest term.

An FIR was reportedly filed at the Senapati police station.

Meanwhile, Taphou Naga village authority, Taphou Naga Women Society, Taphou Naga Youth and several student organisations have strongly condemned the arson attack and urged law enforcing agencies to investigate and book the culprits involved in committing the crime.

The Taphou Area Youth and Students Organisation (TAY-SO), Senapati Gorkha Samaj (SGS) and authorities of 18 villages also condemned the attack and demanded immediate booking of culprits at the earliest.

Condemning the act of arson, Naga People's organisation (NPO) said that violence has no place in a civilised society.

It also asked those responsible for the barbaric act to claim the responsibility and explain before the public the reason for their action.
