Imphal, May 29 2010:
A team headed by Chairperson of the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) visited an alleged victim of physical abuse and rape at RIMS yesterday.
Rukhiya, a minor girl of just 11 was reportedly thrashed severely by one Md Abdul Hamid of Hatta Mana Ingkhol in whose house the girl was working as a domestic helper.
Accusing Rukhiya of helping Hamid's daughter Pipi (20) in eloping with a man from the neighbourhood, Hamid reportedly locked up Rukhiya and three other women who lived as tenants in his house on May 25 .
Hamid also thrashed the young girl as well as the three women.
Rukhiya's uncle, Md Manawar Ali said that he went to Hamid's house on hearing the news.
Manawar said that Hamid brought out Rukhiya and thrashed her in front of him till she fainted.
Rukhiya is currently undergoing treatment at RIMS.
One doctor attending to Rukhiya said that she has been bleeding internally and was losing blood.
Suspecting that the girl might have been raped, Md Manawar Ali lodged an FIR at Porompat police station on May 27 after a complaint of physical abuse was filed earlier the same day.
He said that the complaint was filed against ten persons including Md Hamid.
However, police have not taken up any action as yet, he decried.
It is reported that vaginal swab of the girl has been sent for forensic test.
Dr L Ibetombi said that her primary concern at the moment is to ensure that the girl survives and that she gets all necessary treatment so that she recovers fully from the physical pain and mental trauma.
