The 42nd Assam Rifles of Headquarter 26 Sector Assam Rifles under Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) organized a free medical camp at the Maha Union School of Chandel town on 28 May 2010 as the humanitarian help for the needy and deprived natives of the Chandel town and adjoining areas.
The timely help was acclaimed and acknowledged overwhelmingly.
Under the prevailing circumstances of bandhs and blockade where in the medical facilities as well as the availability of doctors are almost negligible and not forth coming, the free medical camp proved saviour to many and fulfilled the long awaited requirements of the local populace.

A medical team consisted of three Medical Officers including the lady medical officer.
Dy Comdt (SMO) S Choudhury, Captain G S Tiwary and Capt Jaspreet Kaur headed the camp.
The other medical staff consisted of Pathologists, Pharmacists and Dental technicians.
The camp took off with locals turning up in large numbers.
Approx 785 persons were treated and given medical advises on dental, gynecological, HIV/AIDs and pathological diagnosis.
During the camp people were also provided CSD facilities and other basic amenities.
The school children were also treated on the occasion.
The village headmen and staff expressed their deep sense of gratitude to the Assam Rifles for valuable service provided by them.
Assam Rifles authority on the occassion assured the locals of their continued help and frequent medical camps in future too to ensure good health of the region.
The qualified doctors also briefed the villagers about cause of various deseases and highlighted the precautionary measure to be under taken.
