Chandel, October 21 2023:
The renovated hanging bridge across the Chakpi river at Thangkin village was dedicated to the villagers yesterday after a blessing ceremony by Rev Fr Michael Kochuparambil, Parish Priest, St Peter's Parish Monsang Pantha.
The reconstruction of the hanging bridge was initiated by the Bujuur Aanchung Puh (BAP), an apex body of Moyon Naga tribe.
The hanging bridge was swept away during the infamous 2015 flash floods in Chandel and was left unattended for more than 8 years in spite of repeated appraisal to successive competent authorities, said a press note by information and publicity cell, BAP.
Considering the plights of the hapless villagers and considering the importance of the hanging bridge which serves a one of the primary lifeline of Thangkin village and surrounding SULAM areas, the Bujuur Aanchung Puh initiated the reconstruction work of the hanging bridge with the support of the Thangkin village and generous donations from within the Moyon community.
