Imphal, December 18 2023:
The High Court of Manipur has directed the Government to award pension or other assistance and benefits under relevant schemes to retired home guard personnel within three months, said Manipur Home Guard Employees Welfare Association (MHGEWA) .
Speaking to reporters, MHGEWA president Y Mangi Singh said the High Court issued the order on December 15 .
The association had been demanding the Government to provide pension or other financial assistance and benefits under relevant welfare schemes to retired home guard personnel since the last few years, he said.
After repeated representations submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs went unheard, an appeal was made to the High Court of Manipur in 2021, he said.
Subsequently, the Court directed the authorities concerned to file counter affidavits, which they didn't .
The Court, on December 15, then ordered the Government to issue a speaking order within three months to give pension or other assistance and benefits under relevant schemes to retired home guard personnel.
The HC's order was to convert a representation, the association submitted on October 1, 2021, into reality for welfare of the retired home guard personnel, Y Mangi said.
Earlier, the High Court of Manipur has also ordered the State Government to establish a promotion guideline, seniority list, and release 14 percent due DA and ration money for the home guard personnel, he added.
