AMUCO castigates MHA move on AA

All Mani-pur United Clubs' Organi- sation (AMUCO) has express-ed strong displeasure over the clandestine engagement bet-ween the Ministry of Home Affairs and UNC on the latter's demand for alternative arrange-ment.
Speaking to media persons at their Kwakeithel office today, AMUCO advisor KT Rehman reminded that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh repeatedly promised to protect the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Even NDA's Vajpayee Government was forced to review and revoke the Bangkok Declaration of 2001 (extension of cease fire without territorial limits) in the aftermath of the mass movement of June 2001 during which many people were killed in firing by security forces.
The Government of India should not commit the blunder of disintegrating Manipur or sow seeds of animosity among indigenous communities just because Manipur has been merged into the Indian Union.
Neither the Government of India nor the State Government has divulged anything about what transpired during the latest round of tripartite talk held at Senapati.
The State Assembly should adopt a concrete resolution on the clandestine engagement between MHA and UNC du-ring the ongoing session, Rehman demanded.
The border fencing in Mo-reh sector along Indo- Myan- mar left out large areas of Manipur on the Myanmarese side.
Even after an all party delegation went to New Delhi and urged the Centre to demarcate boundary, nothing has been done till date.
This implies that New Delhi does not think Manipur as a part of India although it was brought under the political boundary of India.
Such attitude of the Centre can prove to be a serious deterrent to the Indo-Manipur relationship.
AMUCO and the people of Manipur would oppose any attempt to disintegrate Manipur either in the name of Supra State, Southern Nagaland, 6th Schedule or Alternative Arrangement.
Chief Minister O Ibobi should be held responsible in case a strong mass movement similar to the June mass movement of 2001 erupts, Rehman asserted.
AMUCO president Mani Khuman stated that people of Manipur would not tolerate any activity or manoeuvre which can hurt sentiment of the indigenous communities or upset the integrity of Manipur.
Rather than keeping the dialogue on the demand for alternative arrangement a closed door affair, the same process should be opened to public.
Keeping the process as a secretive affair may invite many unwanted fall-outs.
Such activities which aroused public suspicion has exhausted people's faith in the incumbent Government.
In the past too, there were many instances where the Government betrayed people's trust and faith.
Social divides, bandhs, blockades and ethnification of territory arising from different internal problems are being abetted by the State Government's inefficiency in governance.
It is time for all the people to understand India's divide and rule policy.
The whole North East region needs a political change to free all its people from the Government of India's sinister ploy of suppression and repression, asserted AMUCO president Y Mani Khuman.
Vice president W Gonendro asserted that any attempt to upset social harmony shared between indigenous people of Manipur would be resisted to the last man.
It is matter of serious concern that whether the Government of India's consent to carve out a separate Telangana State out of Andhra Pradesh would have any impact on the North East in general and Manipur in particular.
The Government of Manipur should be very watchful and tactful in such situation, Gonendro added.
