Imphal, November 18 2009: The Inner Line Demand Committee today observed the Inner Permit Demand Day with a function organized at Manipur Press Club remembering the day in 1950 on which the Inner Line Permit system lifted from the state.

It was on this day (November 18) the Inner Line Permit system was lifted from the state.

The then Chief Commissioner, Himmat Singh of the state (at that time Manipur was a union territory of India), lifted the ILP system.

Speaking on the observance function as chief guest, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, president of UCM revealed that every states of the country has the right to enforce the Inner Line Permit system in their respective state in order to protect the indigenous people and check illegal entry of outsiders in their respective states.

Expressing concern over the increasing number of people from outside the state, Dilipkumar said according to a survey report, their population in the state has overcome the total population of tribals settling in the hill areas.

"In such situation, if we remain doing nothing, there would be a great impact in the indigenous people in all respect," he added.

Despite the calls of the people, state government is still in deaf mute in reinforcing the ILP.

Not fulfilling the demand of the people within the Indian Constitution is an unfortunate thing.

As a citizen of the country, state Chief Minister should fulfilled the demand of the people, he said.

Indian Constitution provides a provision allowing each state enforcing ILP system in their states.

That was why the system is enforcing in Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.

In other state also ILP is enforcing.

The enforcement of the system will protect the original settlers of the states not only help in the saving the socio-economic condition of the region.

The function presided over by Inner Line Permit Demand Committee and president of the FREINDS Sapamcha Jadumani also attended by chief advisor of the Thang-Ta Federation of India and eminent director, Birjit Ngagomba, former minister, RD Mingthing and advisor of FRIENDS, H Kulla as guest of honours.

H Kulla, even though under the Indo-Nepal Friendship Treaty provided allowance of Nepalese settle in the country and owned land, not so much Nepalese in Manipur settle in other parts of the country.

In the state Nepalese even contested election and win.

There no reason for happiness in reaching railway in the state.

It will increased entry of outside people in the state like flood water.

Today, we see outsiders settling in Thangmeiband, Sugnu, Jiribam areas.

The number is increasing day by day.

The function was also attended by leaders of various civil organizations.
