Wahyumfest to rock Manipur from today

Imphal, December 15 2022: The 2nd edition of the annual music festival, Wahyumfest will kick off from December 16 at Wahyum Eco-Resort, Taorem village with bands like Parikrama, Girish & The Chronicles, Boomarang and Imnainla alongside popular Manipuri bands The Koi and Imphal Talkies lined up.

Taorem village is in Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency, Imphal East.

Formally "Wahyum Festival of Art & Music," Wahyumfest is an annual festival curated by Mayflos Events and Entertainment Pvt Ltd.

The festival will conclude on December 18 .

The first edition of the festival was held in December 2021 .

At Manipur Press Club today, Mayflos Events and Entertainment Pvt Ltd public relations officer Bharti Yumnam said a camping area is being arranged for attendees who are willing to stay overnight during the festival.

The first edition last year was attended by more than 3,000 people.

This year's Wahyumfest will have various performances by 21 bands with headlining acts from Parikrama, Girish & The Chronicles, Boomarang, and Imna Inla.

This is alongside popular Manipuri bands like The Koi and Imphal Talkies among others.

Besides live music, there will be an art exhibition, horse riding, camping activities, and a live streaming of the FIFA World Cup Final match, which happens to fall on the last day of the festival itself, Bharti said.

The festival will also focus on raising awareness about the Manipuri pony and other equestrian activities.

The Wahyumfest official mascot is a Manipuri pony named Yangba, inspired by a real colt which will be adopted by the Wahyum Team on the first day of the festival.

Wahyumfest gives off an environment that discourages single-use plastic items and wastage of food and energy while successfully hosting a colorful flea market, efficient art installations and a well-lit food court.

The genesis of Wahyumfest was with a humble idea to hold a modest concert that exudes environmental consciousness amongst the goers.

However, the scale of the event (1st edition) exceeded its original plans and turned into a full-fledged music festival, said Bharti.
