With 757 new cases, state records highest single day spike
13 deaths take fatality count to 674; single day positivity, fatality rates increasing

Imphal, May 22 2021: The state on Saturday recorded yet another highest single day spike with 757 new cases detected, out of 3163 samples tested in the last 24 hours, thus recording a single day positivity rate of 23.93 per cent.

Meanwhile, the second wave of Covid-19 has claimed the lives of 13 more people in the state taking the cumulative fatality count to 674 .

Fatality rate is also on the rise with the surge in death cases in the second wave.

The 13 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours included a 46-year old male (Tbl), a 64-year old male (CCpur), an 82-year old male (IE), an 80-year old male (IW), a 75year old male (Kak), a 65-year old female (IW), a 62-year old male (IW), a 72-year old male (IE), a 56-year old female (IW), a 45-year old male (IW), a 55-year old male (IW), a 72-year old male (IE) and a 46-year old female (IE) who died at DH Thoubal (1), DH Churachandpur (1), Raj Medicity (1), Shija Hospitals (2), JNIMS (4) and RIMS (4) hospital respectively.

Active caseload has reached 6390 out of which 4365 are in home isolation and the remaining 2025 are undergoing treatment in healthcare facilities including district hospitals and Covid Care Centres set up in different districts.

So far, 15,134 positive cases and 319 death cases have been reported since the beginning of the current year.

The current month recorded 11,736 new cases and 269 deaths which include 4270 new cases and 112 deaths reported in the last seven days.

According to official reports, all the 757 new positive cases (429 male & 328 female) are from among the general population and their samples were tested at RIMS (110), JNIMS (83), District Hospitals (267) and other private testing centres (297).The positive cases are from Imphal East (141), Imphal West (336), Thoubal (25), Bishnupur (54), Kakching (48), Ukhrul (3), Churachandpur (82), Chandel (5), Senapati (14), Tamenglong (9), Tengnoupal (2), Kamjong (31), Noney (2) and Kangpokpi (5) .

All necessary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

In the last 24 hours, 652 persons were discharged from CAPF (13), home isolation (500), RIMS (1), JNIMS (9), RD Wing (4), LANVA (7), BB (17), NSU (12), SHRI (12), Babina Speciality Hospital (2), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (28), Jivan Hospital (1), RAJMED (3), Thoubal (10), Bishnupur (6), Ukhrul (13), Churachandpur (2), Tamenglong (1), Kangpokpi (8) and Jiribam (1) .

The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 43,322 (general population -39,603 and CAPF personnel - 3,719) .

Number of recovered cases is 36,258 (general population - 32,668 and CAPF personnel - 3,590) and number of active cases is 6390 (general population - 6266 and CAPF personnel - 124) .

The recovery rate is 83.69 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 1366 D type Oxygen Cylinders and 504 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities.

District Hospital and government institutions have 178D and 66B filled cylinders out of these Bishnupur has 27 D-type, Chandel (10D,4B), Churachandpur (41D, 5B), Senapati (20D, 0B), Thoubal (28D, 15B), Ukhrul (6D, 0B), Tamenglong (7D, 0B), Jiribam (20D, 11B), Moreh (SD, 6B), Mao (4D, 6B), Kakching (8B), Pherzawl (4D, 5B), Noney (2D,1B) and Kamjong (3D, 1B) .

So far, 3,41,781 individuals have been administered Covid vaccines, according to CCR report.

It also informed air passengers, who travelled into the state on May 20 by Air India AI-889 in rows 14-35 to report to the Common Covid Control Room 1800345-3818 or respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) for further surveillance and necessary testing.

In Kakching district, 47 new positive cases were detected during RAT conducted on Saturday.

Of them, 26 were detected at government RAT centre and the other 21 at Jivan Hospital.

While 45 of them are from different parts of Kakching district, one is from Imphal West and one from Tengnoupal district.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (15,528), Imphal East (10,035), Thoubal (3188), Churachandpur (3001), Kangpokpi (1378), Tamenglong (1659), Bishnupur (2302), Senapati (952), Ukhrul (978), Kakching (1721), Chandel (826), Noney (490), Tengnoupal (473), Jiribam (386), Kamjong (365), and Pherzawl (40) .

Fatality counts in different districts are Imphal West (257), Imphal East (172), Thoubal (69), Churachandpur (52), Kangpokpi (19), Tamenglong (7), Bishnupur (44), Senapati (4), Ukhrul (8), Kakching (23), Chandel (12), Noney (1), Tengnoupal (3), Jiribam (1), Kamjong (2), and Pherzawl (0) .

However, the figure does not match with data released by CMOs of some districts.

The state health authority is not willing to provide district-specific case status despite repeated request from media.

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 13,961 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 19,045 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 2,18,759 tests per million population against the national average of 2,34,541 TPM.

Case fatality rate rose to 1.56 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, only 3163 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 23.93 per cent while the cumulative positivity rate further rises to 6.38 per cent.
