Imphal, May 08 2010: NSCN (IM) General Secretary Thuingaleng Muivah's attempt to visit Manipur under the excuse of visiting his home should not be allowed at any cost as long as the question of greater Nagaland is in the agenda of Indo-Naga peace talk, stated the United Committee Manipur (UCM) in a statement.

Asserting that the hidden agenda behind Muivah's proposed visit to Manipur is crystal clear, the UCM noted that the Indo-Naga peace talk has been making little headway even after 70 rounds of talks.

However, Muivah has been continuing with his efforts to disintegrate Manipur in pursuit of his dream of bringing together Naga inhabited areas to form a greater Nagaland.

Ensnarled in Government of India's trap of political dialogue, Th Muivah has been working to create misunderstanding and animosity among different communities of Manipur.

This is the second time the Government of India attempted to break up Manipur in connivance with Muivah.

The first one happened in 2001 when the Government of India and NSCN (IM) signed the Bangkok Declaration on June 14 the same year according to which the cease-fire pact was extended without territorial limits.

This resulted in the loss of 18 lives and injuries to more than 500 people while many others were maimed for life, the UCM recalled.

Before this, more than 900 Kukis were killed and thousands rendered homeless when NSCN (IM) unleashed a sinister pogrom of ethnic cleansing.

Over the years, the people of Manipur has been enduring the hardships caused by the NSCN (IM) .

There have been numerous cases of extortion, rape and murder by NSCN (IM) cadres, the latest and most gruesome being the murder of Dr Kishan, Token and Rajen.

The State Government declared Muivah a wanted criminal.

It was fortunate for Muivah that the State Government informed Muivah beforehand about the ban on his entry to Manipur instead of arresting him at the first available opportunity as should be done in cases of other wanted criminals, the UCM remarked.

The UCM strongly condemned the clearance given by the Government of India for Muivah to visit Manipur.

It also expressed solidarity to the bereaved families of Meli Chakho and Losu Parswing and others injured in the stand off with security forces at Mao Gate.

The Government of India should be held responsible for the death of the two youngsters.

If the Government of India is sincere enough to avoid violence and bring peace, it should declare categorically that Muivah would never be allowed to visit Manipur instead of deferring his trip.

Reacting to some Nagaland based civil organisations' call to tribals residing in the valley to come to hills, the UCM denounced it as an attempt to create grievously tense situation.

Saying that it welcomes the UNC's appeal to lift the 'total blockade', the UCM assured that it would consider the appeal once the situation improves a bit.

But the UNC's appeal to allow tribal people residing in the valley safe passage to hills appeared to be ignorant about the relationship between tribes and non-tribes.

During the massive protest movement of June, 2001, the tribal brethren residing in the valley were neither assaulted nor subjected to any sort of ill-treatment, the UCM reminded.

This time too, the UCM has been keeping vigil day and night to ward off any untoward incidents from elements intending to flare up communal tension.

Referring to the Nagaland Chief Minister's comment that the Manipur Government's decision to bar entry of Muivah was defying Central Government's directive, the UCM remarked that the Nagaland Chief Minister was poking his nose in other people's business.

Maintaining that the Government of Manipur should not change its stand, the UCM declared that it has prepared to face any eventuality together with the people of Manipur in case the Government of India forces the State Government to review its stand.

Th UCM would be hosting an all community leader' meet at its office at 11 am of May 10 to strengthen the fraternal among different communities of Manipur.

UCM would implement the decisions adopted in the meeting, it conveyed. It further appealed to all sections of people not to spread and buy rumours.
