International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking observed

Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch and Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch today jointly observed International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking at IMA Hall in Lamphelpat under the theme, "People First: Stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention" .
It was attended by Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch (IMA, MSB) president, Prof RK Lenin Singh; Indian Psychiatric Society, Manipur State Branch (IPS, MSB) incoming president, Prof K Shantibala Devi; IPS, MSB outgoing president, Dr S Manikanta Singh; IPS, MSB secretary, Dr Nelson Loitongbam and IMA, MSB secretary, Dr James Elangbam as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nelson Loitongbam informed that International Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking is observed on June 26 every year to raise awareness about the devastating effects of drug abuse.

He continued that the event was held to sensitize the public about the importance of treating people who use drugs with respect and empathy.
He also mentioned that the aim of the programme is to spread awareness about the treatment facilities available in RIMS, JNIMS, Primary Health Centres and Community Health Centres.
Similarly, Narcotics & Affairs of Border (NAB), Manipur also observed International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at NAB office, Imphal.
During the event, Senior SP NAB, K Meghachandra Singh; O/C NAB P/S, officers and personnel of NAB, Manipur took pledge to cooperate in stopping drug abuse, not to consume any illegal drugs and create awareness about the ill effects of drugs.
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was also observed today by Women Police Station, Churachandpur.
